Appalachian Alumni Association Awards

Each spring the Appalachian Alumni Association recognizes great alumni and friends for their service to the university and accomplishments in their careers. The awards are given during the Alumni Awards Banquet on Spring Alumni Weekend. The 2008 awards event was held Friday night, April 25, at the Broyhill Inn.

William "Dexter" Coakley '97
Dexter Coakley is one of the most decorated players in Appalachian State University football history. Only the seventh student athlete to have his number retired.

Recognizes individuals for their exceptional service to the University. Examples of service include serving on any board or council dedicated to the progress of Appalachian, assisting with alumni functions or related university events, promoting Appalachian in the community, providing financial support to the university or contributing time and energy to the general betterment and development of Appalachian. Alumni Memorial Scholarship Recipients
Awarded annually to children of Appalachian alumni who are incoming freshmen. The screening process is highly competitive, and is based on high school academic success, SAT or ACT scores, participation in school and community activities (including work experience), and leadership potential.
