Adopt-The-Team - $1000

Team Sunergy is comprised of students from various academic disciplines, spread across Appalachian State University’s diverse campus, working together for one common goal: to research and develop solar powered race cars. Team Sunergy combines racing and sustainability to connect our unique location in the heartland of racing to Appalachian's strategic initiatives to become a leader in renewable and sustainable energy. Visit the team's website to learn more.

The adopt-a-part program is designed to give individuals a way to power Team Sunergy and support the build of our next car. Your donation provides funding for the materials needed to build a winning solar vehicle that will compete on the world stage and give us another opportunity to beat Michigan! The funding levels are below. Each level represents a piece of technology used on the car. For your support, your name will be featured on our team website and we will keep you updated on the progress of our new car and our race to a sustainable future.

Adopt One Square Foot of Carbon Fiber - $500
Our concept car is proposing to have a full carbon fiber body. This will save valuable weight and add to the stability of the car.

Adopt a Battery - $250
This is the main energy storage for the car that holds the electricity required to run the motor. Battery storage is particularly import in inclement weather and when no sunlight is available.

Adopt a Tire - $100
These tires are specially designed for solar cars due to their efficient tread and light weight. They resemble motorcycle tires with their slender width.

Adopt a Solar Cell - $50
Solar cells are vital to the car's overall performance and efficiency. With full sunlight, we are able to drive the car all day at 45 m.p.h.

Seen above, Team Sunergy is currently in the design process of our next generation solar vehicle. This car will be designed with the everyday driver in mind and will feature amenities not normally found in solar vehicle racing like headlights, windshield wipers and trunk space. The team works on a two-year build cycle and plans to have the new car ready to race in The American Solar Challenge in the summer of 2018. The car will be designed, built and tested by students, providing many opportunities for hands-on learning and professional development.
